🍂 The date is confirmed
Chancellor John Healey has confirmed the Autumn Budget will be delivered on Wednesday 28 October 2026, earlier in the year than 2025's Budget and the first since Andy Burnham became Prime Minister in July. It will be accompanied, as always, by an independent forecast from the Office for Budget Responsibility.
Why does the date matter to you? Because decisions made before Budget day often matter more than decisions made after it. Once new rules are announced, your room to plan ahead can shrink overnight.
📈 What's the mood so far?
The Chancellor has said the Budget will be "built on fiscal discipline" while aiming to ease cost of living pressure and support growth. Reading between the lines, that typically means a mix of targeted support and revenue raising measures elsewhere. Nothing is confirmed yet, and speculation this far out should be treated as exactly that, speculation. But it's a sensible moment to review your position while you still have full flexibility.
✅ What's worth reviewing now
- Any planned asset sales or business disposals where timing could affect the tax you pay
- Dividend versus salary planning for the current tax year
- Pension contributions and whether you're making the most of current allowances
- Any capital expenditure plans that might benefit from being brought forward or held back
