David Clarke

Director

David started as a trainee with us and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant before becoming a director of the firm.

When David isn’t taking care of his client portfolio, he oversees the day to day running of the practice and ensuring everything is running smoothly.

Outside of work, David enjoys playing football (when he’s not injured), working on his new house and not indicating in his BMW.

Director

Peter is one of two directors that we are proud to say started as a trainee with us. After qualifying as a chartered accountant, he was soon appointed as a director of the firm.

When Peter isn’t working on benefiting his clients, he oversees the day to day running of the firm, helping to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Outside of work, Peter enjoys craft beers, leaving carnival swings too early and swimming.

Geoff is a director and longest serving member of the firm. He has a vast amount of experience across many areas of tax and accountancy.

Geoff specialises in high level accounting and tax issues, as well playing a key role with a few of our charity clients.

Outside of work, Geoff enjoys gardening, spending time at his holiday home in Italy and chess game theory.

Personal Tax Specialist

Mike is a keen photographer and former proprietor of an independent camera store. Due to his experience of running a business he is business minded and enjoys helping clients get their personal tax affairs in order.

Mike is our Personal Tax Manager, and, as such, has a lot of knowledge and experience across the many areas of personal tax and self-assessment.

Outside of work, Mikes enjoys craft beer, photography and weekend festivals.

Brendan Hodgson
Brendan Hodgson

Accountant/Support Services Manager

After completing a placement year at IBM and graduating from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Accounting & E-Business, Brendan quickly became our resident IT specialist.

Brendan has gained a wide level of experience in accountancy and various taxes, having worked with multiple companies, sole traders and partnerships (some say he’s the Swiss Army Knife of the Accountancy World). Brendan is a qualified tax advisor and currently studying towards becoming a chartered tax advisor.

Outside of work, Brendan enjoys travelling, photography and water sports.

Accountant

After leaving university with a degree in accounting and finance, Massimo joined Wood, Hicks & Co. and quickly integrated with the team. As you would expect from a man with Italian heritage, he is flamboyant, charming and charismatic.

Massimo has recently qualified as a chartered accountant and is keen to develop further in his career. He has a broad breadth of experience across many accounting and tax areas.

Outside of work, Massimo enjoys eating out, playing football and any other sport he can sink his teeth into.

Having conquered the science world with a degree and a masters, Andy’s next challenge is conquering the world of accountancy.

Andy is progressing well in his training as a chartered accountant and has recently gotten married, so to say he enjoys a challenge is an understatement!

Outside of work, Andy enjoys playing football, watching documentaries and returning parcels for his wife.

Helen is the second longest serving member of staff at the firm, and has been our Office Manager for many years.

Helen is highly organised and efficient, ensuring the firm’s books are well maintained as well as whipping the rest of the staff into shape.

Outside of work, Helen enjoys travelling, socialising and spending time with her new family.

Harry Lumsden

Administrator Assistant

Harry was hired as an apprentice and forms part of our goal to create and nurture young talent who adhere to our values and grow with the firm. He has settled in well, and as part of his role is reception based Harry knows many customers on a first name basis.

Harry is currently studying towards both his accountancy qualification with the AAT, and his driving licence (if you would like updates on when to avoid the roads, please let us know).

Outside of work, Harry enjoys gaming, sailing and playing pool.

Bookkeeping, VAT & Making Tax Digital

To ensure you stay on top of things and can make the correct decisions for your business at the right time you need up to date management information. For VAT registered businesses we assist you to correctly categorise your expenditure and claim the maximum amount you’re entitled to from HMRC, as well as preparing and submitting the necessary returns. With the requirements of Making Tax Digital effective from 1 April 2019 we’re there every step of the way giving you peace of mind that you’re fulfilling your obligations.

We use cloud-based technology to help in lots of ways, however much or little you need us. Payroll & pension

From the national minimum wage to statutory parenting pay, there’s a lot to keep track of with your payroll function. As a vital part of your business you need to make sure it’s running smoothly, and getting it right takes skill and experience as well as time.

If you lack the resources required to run your own payroll then we can manage the whole function for you. Protection against fees for tax investigations & complimentary legal advice

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) continue to receive substantial resources from the government to tackle tax evasion and avoidance, collecting unprecedented amounts of information for analysis to target taxpayers where HMRC considers a risk exists that the right amount of tax has not been paid.

HMRC also enquire at random, so you can be selected even if there is no hint of wrongdoing in any way. Once a taxpayer is selected for enquiry, the requests for information and supporting documentation are not only intrusive, time-consuming and tiresome to prepare for, but are also often of a technical nature.

As a result, representation by a tax professional is usually necessary such that it is quite common for tax enquiries to cost a lot to resolve. You will usually have to bear these costs whether or not HMRC finds extra tax to pay.

We offer a Tax Investigation Service in partnership with a leading insurer which protects you against the cost of representation against HMRC. This gives you peace of mind and safeguards you against unnecessary stress and additional fees.
